Background Information

On February Second 2016, an incident occurred on the Point Park Campus on the fifth floor just outside of Professor Avery’s room where the photography students critique their work. On this day something unusual happened and it resulted in the resignation of an adjunct teacher.

When Professor Conboy took his class to critique the classes work, student Tyler Calpin accidentally stepped on at the base of a plant that Criminal Justice Professor Avery. When this happened she wanted to bring him into her office so that she could talk to him to make sure that this did not happen again because the plant means so much to her. Professor Avery neglected to comment on the incident because she said that she has already talked to Globe about what happened and she does not want to talk about it any further.

Other students have said that the plant symbolizes her health and that as long as the plant is healthy, she is health. They went on to say that if the plant starts to die that she believes that she will become ill or possible die herself, which is why she is so protective of the plant.

After adjunct Professor Conboy saw that his student was missing he went to go and get him back so that he could carry on class. This is when he and Professor Avery got into an argument. No details were shared about what the two said, but it is clear that it was not a friendly interaction.

Over the past couple of months the Point Park University has taken a look at the series of events that went down and has addressed the issue. They found Professor Conboy had escalated the situation and that he had not handled it properly.

Soon after this Professor Conboy decided that he would resign from teaching and go back to his job as a professional photographer.

It is sad to see a Professor resign after having such a big impact on his students after only being here for just a few short months. He will be greatly missed by those who had him, not for what happened that day, but for his passion for teaching, and how well he got along with his students.
